The Yao women from China, rely on a simple, homemade hair secret – ” rice water” as a daily skin toner and hair care, that leaves the hair with rich natural colour, lustrous shine and ultimately healthy… With hair so long, the Yao ethnic women made it to the Guinness Book of World Records .

Rice water contains an impressive amount of protein,Vitamin B,C, E, Minerals…..
i. The proteins in rice water strengthen damaged hair shafts (split ends) thereby promoting hair growth,
ii. Vitamin B – promote strong hair ,
iii. Vitamin C – produce sebum which keeps the scalp moisturized,
iv. Vitamin E – known to turn frizzy & damaged hair into sleek, shiny & healthy manes,
v. Inositol in the rice increase elasticity and reduce surface friction. This can help over-processed hair get it’s healthy again.

How to make fermented rice water:
Rinse the rice ( any rice of your choice; preferably white rice) with water to remove impurities. Add water into the rice, wash and stir rice.Strain out the rice water into a clean bowl. Add grape fruit peel, oils (almond oil, jojoba oil,…) into the rice water . Put to boil for about 5 – 10 minutes . Leave rice water to ferment for a day or two or a month ( research shows that Yao ethnic women usually leave the rice water for about a month before use). To mask the odor from the fermented rice water, you can add drop of peppermint oil . For optimal result use fermented rice water frequently. Fermented rice water can be use as a preepoo treatment.
